Despite how common this type of pain is, some myths persist. Get the truth about these eight common back pain myths: Myth: Lifting heavy objects is the primary cause of back pain. Fact: While lifting heavy objects with poor form can certainly contribute to back pain, it's not the sole cause. Sedentary lifestyles, poor posture, obesity and genetic factors can all play a role in the development of back pain. Myth: Bed rest will make my back pain better. Fact: Probably not, but it depends on the cause of your pain. If your back pain is due to a muscle strain, taking it easy for a few days may help. Treated Hepatitis B Infection May Be a Positive Prognostic Factor in ... - AJMC.com Managed Markets Network

Patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)–associated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who received antiviral treatment exhibited superior outcomes following treatment with rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) compared with patients with HBV-unassociated DLBCL, recent study results suggest. Specifically, following treatment with R-CHOP, these individuals had a significantly longer time to progression (TTP) and overall survival (OS). Findings were published in the journal Clinical and Molecular Hepatology. Infection with HBV is a known risk factor for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, while previous research has shown chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a key risk factor for DLBCL, authors wrote. To better understand whether antiviral treatment mitigates disease progression or HBV-associated NHL or DLBCL recurrence, investigators carried out a retrospective study of patients presenting to 2 hospitals in South Korea. All participants were diagnosed with DLBCL and u

Atopic Dermatitis Treatment May Contribute to Elevated ... - Drug Topics

The pathogen Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) often invades the inflamed skin of people with atopic dermatitis (AD), worsening the disease by increasing skin damage. S. aureus is found on healthy skin but appears in higher numbers on diseased skin because it exploits the fragile skin barrier. Researchers sought to understand the impact of de novo microbiome mutations on diseases such as AD. 1 AD develops at different rates and severity and although factors such as genetic differences or environmental defects in barrier function explain some of the differences in response to treatment, they do not explain them all. To identify mutations acquired by S. aureus that develop under natural selection, researchers conducted a prospective, longitudinal study of 23 children aged 5 to 15 with moderate to severe AD in Mexico. Over the course of 9 months and 5 visits, patients were prescribed standard treatments, including topical steroids, emollients, and bleach baths.  The scoring

The RBT course is recommended for parents, teachers, administrators, health care providers and others who work with children or adults. Participants learn about effective communication, socialization and other techniques to reduce problem behaviors in individuals with autism. The program also teaches participants how to collect data to track progress and develop treatment plans properly. The RBT certification also provides an advantage for people building careers in health care, social work, mental health counseling and school psychology. To reach military families, PaCE partners with the UTSA Center for Military Families, the Alamo Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the chapter's Wounded Warrior and Military Families (W2MF) Endowment Fund. In 2022, PaCE offered the free program to 10 military families. After seeing the program's impact on participants, AFCEA increased its funding commitment to double t

One Step Forward, 2 Back: CDC's Proposals for Infection Control in ... - Infection Control Today

Image
CDC (Adobe Stock, unknown) As the White House maintains strict COVID-19 testing protocols for access to President Joseph Biden, protocols which recently detected SARS-CoV-2 in a member of the Israeli delegation, the CDC appears to be on the verge of relaxing infection disease strategies. During the CDC's June 2023 Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) meeting, concerns were expressed regarding proposed updates to existing infection control guidance for health care facilities which would place patients, health care workers, and nursing home residents at risk. The new proposals elicited many comments from prominent public health organizations, patient and worker safety organizations, labor unions, and other experts (Table 1). The CDC was complimented for updating recommendations, and there was uniform agreement that switching to a paradigm of air and touch transmission pathways, as opposed to droplet and airborne, was needed. However, many proposals raise
